What is SWAT?

SWAT are a group of individuals who have come together galvanised by rising concerns that our local district general hospital, Withybush, is under threat. The group is made up of a number of consultants and doctors who work at the hospital, retired GPs , town and county councillors, and members of the public.

Our aims:
  • To publicise the current situation of cuts to Withybush Hospital vital services.
  • To publicise the threats to cut more services which may severely downgrade the current capability of Withybush.
  • To campaign to promote a greater understanding of the current and growing health needs of Pembrokeshire.
  • To campaign to reverse the reduction and indeed improve the services of Withybush.
How we will do this:
  • Interpret existing public and internal documents.
  • Continue and promote discussions with patients and members of NHS staff.
  • Build on our own working observations and experience
  • Work closely with local and national media in a sensitive and controlled manner.

“I never attended a demonstration prior to this and I am ashamed to say that I have so little interest in politics that I have occasionally forgotten to vote.  I have seen the plans for the future of the NHS in West Wales and I am afraid for all our futures.

The standard of healthcare in not just Pembrokeshire but the whole of West Wales will plummet to depths that are hard to imagine.  This will have disastrous effects not just on our health but on the economic future of the region.  Who will want to live in Pembrokeshire if their lives and the lives of their families are at risk?  I have joined the fight because we all have a responsibility to do our utmost to prevent this happening.”
